Minister Varank Visited Jeomed Pharmaceuticals Inc.

Varank stated in an interview with an Anadolu Agency correspondent following his visit that the company had signed an important R&D and production project with OSTİM Technical University, emphasizing that “They produced and launched domestically manufactured contact lens solution here.”Noting that contact lens solutions had previously been imported from abroad and that Türkiye had a trade deficit of approximately $120 million in this area, Varank said that the company had obtained the necessary permits and certifications for its contact lens solutions.Stating that this enabled contact lens users in Türkiye to access a domestically manufactured product, Varank said, “We are a government committed to developing Türkiye through domestic production. We place particular importance on developing high-value-added products and products in which we have a trade deficit through domestic and national capabilities. This company has also developed this product within the framework of university-industry cooperation, benefiting from various forms of government support and incentives, particularly from KOSGEB.”“WE WILL LAUNCH A CALL FOR HEALTHCARE AND CHEMICAL PRODUCTS”Referring to the Technology-Oriented Industrial Move Program they had launched, Varank continued:“As the state, we support the entire process, from R&D to commercialization, for products in which we have a trade deficit. We provide support to companies in designated product groups. The chemical and pharmaceutical industries are among them. In the coming period, we will also launch a call under the Industrial Move Program and support projects by companies seeking to produce products and medicines that are not currently manufactured in Türkiye.”Varank expressed his satisfaction with Jeomed’s production of contact lens solutions in Türkiye with support from KOSGEB and stated that they would continue to support localization efforts across all sectors.“WE AIM TO EXPORT 6 MILLION BOXES WITHIN ONE YEAR”Polat, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company, stated that Jeomed initially imported healthcare products during its early years and later had products contract-manufactured by pharmaceutical companies. However, when they found that these products did not meet the quality standards they sought, they established their own production facility.“We wanted our products to be effective against bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, while also containing our Türkiye’s natural resource, thermal water. When we could not achieve this with any manufacturer, we established our own production facility,” Polat said.Referring to Türkiye’s rich geothermal resources, Polat stated, “We have always used geothermal water in our products. When our healthcare products, which are rich in sulfur, vitamins, and minerals, were enhanced with Tea Tree Oil as an active ingredient, the result was exceptional shampoos, soaps, creams, and lotions.”Polat stated that shampoos often contain harmful active ingredients, whereas their own products do not, making them safe to use.Noting that they had begun selling their products worldwide by participating in international congresses and exhibitions, and that 14 of their products were patented, Polat said, “Our users provide positive feedback. As a result, we have developed an export network reaching 51 countries, including Greece, the USA, Russia, India, and Ecuador. Along with the contact lens solution we have developed, we aim to further increase our export volume. We target exporting 6 million boxes of contact lens solution within one year.”Emphasizing that Türkiye has a significant trade deficit in healthcare products, Polat said, “Let us trust our domestic products and support our domestic companies. As domestic companies grow, we will invest, open new factories, and purchase new machinery. By creating employment for many people, we will contribute to the development of our country.
